Run #3176 by Mr. Cool at Charlie Market

Run Report

Just when it looked like Mr. Cool was about to lay trail for a glorified committee meeting, the faithful gathered at Charlie Market for Run #3176. The starting circle looked suspiciously thin, leading many to wonder if Penang H3 had finally discovered exercise was overrated. But true to form, as the run wound down and the promise of cold beer grew stronger, another twenty-odd hashers magically materialised from the shadows. Proof yet again that we're less a running club and more a highly mobile drinking society with occasional fitness interruptions. The trail itself was a proper little beauty. Mr. Cool teased the pack with a long skirt around the outside of Mount Olivia, making everyone work for the privilege before finally mounting her. After the climb came the descent down her delightfully wet and muddy backside, providing ample opportunity for slips, slides, and creative use of four-wheel drive. The hare kept things interesting all the way to the Hash Highway where disaster struck the front-running elite. Convinced they knew better than the paper, the FRBs charged several hundred metres into the distance before realising they'd been outsmarted by the hare. The resulting confusion reshuffled the pack beautifully and gave the mortals a rare glimpse of the front. The international arrivals lounge was unexpectedly busy. Returnees appeared from Australia, Japan, Singapore and various other corners of the globe, popping up out of nowhere like long-lost relatives who heard there was free beer available. Naturally, they were welcomed in the traditional fashion—with introductions and immediate punishment involving beverages that had already gone warm. Hospitality, Hash style. Back at the circle, things only got better. One unlucky birthday victim was honoured with the sort of celebration only hashers could devise: a candle strapped to his head and the challenge of blowing it out without setting fire to himself. Several more charges flew left, right and centre, accompanied by the usual accusations, denials, songs and shameless abuse. Nobody escaped entirely innocent, which is exactly how a good circle should be. By the end, beer had been consumed, reputations damaged, and smiles were everywhere. Verdict: Excellent trail, good climb, glorious mud, FRBs properly humiliated, international visitors punished accordingly, and a birthday candle assault worthy of the archives. A fine reminder that Penang H3 remains a drinking club occasionally interrupted by running. On On — and remember, if you're arriving after the run, at least pretend you've broken a sweat before grabbing a beer. 🍻
